The Project Happy Feet Slipper Race

Jun 07 2014

The Project Happy Feet Slipper Race– Resort Edition organized by Crimson Resort & SpaMactan is a non-competitive race to raise funds for charity wherein the participants, in teams composed of 5 members each, walk in slippers for a distance of 5 kilometers. 100% of the funds raised will go to more than 2,000 Grade 1 public school kids supported by Gawad Kalinga.

The event, which was held last Saturday, 7 June 2014, gave the familiar race a twist – teams of five had to overcome four challenge stations, Skipping Rope, Kabaw-kabaw, Chinese Garter and Maria went to Crimson, while walking in slippers before making their way to the finish line in the poolside garden. The fastest teams will win exciting prizes from the sponsors.

The enthusiasm and energy of each participant is highly electrifying. No effort was spared in dressing up in team colors – some with masks and face paints, while others adorned their slippers with colorful add-ons.

The program started off with a short address from Deborah Chew, co-founder and director of Project Happy Feet, then a race briefing, participants then warmed up to the movement of Zumba. They then took part in a ceremonial 1km walk led by the resort’s General Manager Mr. James Montenegro and PHF volunteers who flew in from Singapore to support the event. After the race, participants and guests gathered at the resort’s pool-side garden to enjoy an open bar cocktail reception while witnessing the presentation of tokens of appreciation to sponsors and a giant mock cheque to Gawad Kalinga.

The event ended on a high note with the winning teams receiving their prizes on stage, and a reggae band playing into the night.
